Introducing the WhatIsAGoodMother_Project Channel (WIAGM Channel), Season 2 — by Dr. K. Ho

Hi! This is Dr. Katty (“Katy”) Ho. I earned my Ed.D. in Educational Psychology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, my M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, my M.A. in Psychology from Boston University, and my B.A. cum laude (Hons) in Psychology from The University of California at Berkeley. I have been in the field of psychology including research and teaching and ministry in the past 30 years of my career and am a former Lecturer of Psychology having taught many undergraduate and post-graduate courses in psychology at several higher-education institutions in Hong Kong (CityUHK, CUHK, EdUHK) for more than 13 years cumulatively. I am developing my WhatIsAGoodMother_Project Channel to aim at providing psychoeducation regarding Parenting Research, Skills, and Effects to clients, students, professionals, and general readers/viewers anywhere in the world.

In WIAGM Channel Season 2, I investigated three concepts: (a) Helicopter Parenting (i.e., overparenting), (b) the Helicopter Parenting Effects, and (c) the Six Parenting Dimensions (i.e., warmth, rejection, structure, chaos, autonomy support, and coercion), using three journal articles, which are Odenweller, Booth-Butterfield, & Weber (2014) on defining Helicopter Parenting, Howard, Nicholson, & Chesnut (2019) on investigating the Helicopter Parenting Effects, and Skinner, Johnson, & Snyder (2005) on understanding the differentiation between the Six Dimensions of Parenting. Between now and the publication dates of the videos, when I have time, I will write more about what I am finding in my research process on these concepts and their operational definitions, that is, how they are different from or similar to each other, and more important, what those concepts mean to us as parents and why we need to know — and, What difference does it make?
